Things to do in Niagara Falls
The thundering falls on the US–Canada border
A favourite for honeymoons
Niagara Falls is one of the world’s most famous natural sights — three immense waterfalls on the border between Ontario and New York State, where the Niagara River plunges over a cliff in a roar of mist and spray. The Canadian side, beside Toronto, has the best panoramic views of the Horseshoe Falls and the classic boat trip to their base.
The original honeymoon capital — thundering falls, illuminations and nearby wine country.
Time needed
1 day (day trip from Toronto)

Don’t miss
The boat to the base of the falls
The essential experience: a boat trip (the Hornblower on the Canadian side, the Maid of the Mist on the US side) right up to the foot of the thundering Horseshoe Falls, where you’re soaked in the spray. Go by day for the rainbows and stay for the nightly illumination.

Best time to visit
Late spring to early autumn for the boat trips and the full experience; September–October adds fall colour and thinner crowds. The falls run year-round (winter is icy and dramatic, but the boats pause).

- Stay for the nightly illumination (and seasonal fireworks) if you can.
