Tulum tips

  • Visit the ruins at opening — there’s no shade and they’re mobbed and scorching by late morning.
  • The beachfront hotel zone runs on generators and is pricey; the town (pueblo) is cheaper and livelier.
  • Rent a car or bike for the cenotes and beaches — they’re strung out and taxis add up fast.
