Things to do in Yosemite National Park
Granite giants, thundering waterfalls and ancient sequoias
Yosemite is the cathedral of America’s national parks — a glacier-carved valley walled by sheer granite cliffs like El Capitan and Half Dome, laced with some of the tallest waterfalls on earth and groves of giant sequoias. It’s the classic wilderness escape from San Francisco, about four hours east.

Yosemite Valley and Tunnel View
The valley floor is the heart of it: the first sight of El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridalveil Fall framed at Tunnel View is one of the great views in America. Drive in, then explore on foot or by the free shuttle — most of the icons are within the valley.

How to get to Yosemite National Park
It’s about a 3.5–4 hour drive east from San Francisco — a hire car gives you the most freedom, though long day tours run from the city. Staying in or near the park (Yosemite Valley, Mariposa or Oakhurst) is far better than a single rushed day. Peak-season timed-entry reservations sometimes apply, so check before you go.
