Fjord-like cliffs and dhow cruises in the “Norway of Arabia”

Khasab is the capital of Oman’s Musandam peninsula, a mountainous Omani exclave jutting into the Strait of Hormuz north of the UAE. Steep limestone cliffs plunge into turquoise inlets — khors — that look strikingly like Scandinavian fjords, earning the region its nickname, the “Norway of Arabia.” The classic experience is a traditional wooden dhow cruise among the fjords, with dolphins, snorkelling and a slower, wilder side of Arabia.
