Is Stockholm safe?

General safety

A very safe city with low crime. The main thing to watch is pickpocketing in summer tourist crowds (Gamla Stan, public transport). Otherwise it’s calm, orderly and easy.

Solo female travellers

Excellent for solo female travellers — comfortable and safe to walk day and night, with a strong culture of gender equality. Ordinary city awareness is more than enough.

LGBTQ+ travellers

Legal and exceptionally welcoming, with marriage equality since 2009 and one of the world’s most progressive societies. Openly comfortable for LGBTQ+ travellers.
