Is Taipei safe?
General safety
One of Asia’s safest cities — very low crime, day or night, with a famously honest, helpful culture where lost items are routinely returned.
Solo female travellers
Exceptional for solo women — walking alone at night is normal and street harassment is rare. The MRT even has CCTV-covered safe-waiting zones on platforms for late-night travel.
LGBTQ+ travellers
The most LGBTQ+-friendly city in Asia — Taiwan was the first to legalise same-sex marriage (2019), and Taipei hosts the region’s largest Pride. The scene centres on Ximending.
Safety guidance is general and can change — always check your government’s latest travel advice before you go.
