Is Phuket safe?
General safety
Generally safe for visitors; violent crime against tourists is rare. The real risks are road safety (scooter accidents are the top cause of tourist injury), jet-ski and rental scams, strong monsoon-season currents, and overcharging — not personal danger.
Solo female travellers
A manageable and popular solo-female destination. Use ride-hailing or metered transport at night, watch your drink in Patong’s nightlife, be cautious renting a scooter (wear a helmet), and swim only where it’s flagged safe.
LGBTQ+ travellers
Welcoming, in line with Thailand’s LGBTQ-friendly culture; the country passed marriage equality in 2025, and Patong has an open, visible scene. Broadly relaxed and accepting.
Safety guidance is general and can change — always check your government’s latest travel advice before you go.

Getting around & essentials
Phuket is spread out with limited public transport — use the Grab app, metered taxis or a pre-booked transfer rather than overpriced tuk-tuks. Many rent scooters; only if confident and helmeted. Boats run to the islands from the piers.
