Paris Travel Guide

World-class art, café culture, and the most romantic streets on earth.

Paris pairs grand boulevards and Seine-side strolls with the planet’s finest museums and a café on every corner. Romantic for couples, rich for culture-lovers and very doable solo, it rewards slow wandering as much as ticking off icons.

Is Paris safe?

General safety

Very safe for violent crime. The real risks are skilled pickpockets around the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre and on the Métro, plus a few street scams (petition clipboards, the “gold ring”). Keep bags zipped and ignore strangers who approach with a game.

Solo female travellers

A comfortable, hugely popular solo-female city. Expect occasional street attention you can simply ignore; keep normal night-time awareness on quieter Métro lines and you will explore freely.

LGBTQ+ travellers

Legal and very welcoming, with marriage equality since 2013 and a vibrant scene in Le Marais. One of Europe’s most LGBTQ-friendly capitals.

Top things to do in Paris

  • Eiffel Tower and a Seine river cruise
  • The Louvre and Musée d’Orsay
  • Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur
  • Notre-Dame, Île de la Cité and the Latin Quarter
  • Day trip to the Palace of Versailles

Getting around & essentials

The Métro is fast and covers everything; the centre is also wonderfully walkable. From CDG or Orly, the RER train or a pre-booked private transfer beats a metered taxi in traffic.

Paris FAQs

Is Paris safe for solo female travellers?

Yes — it is one of the most popular solo-female cities in the world. The main thing to manage is pickpockets in tourist crowds and on the Métro; keep your bag zipped and close.

Is the Paris Métro easy to use?

Very — it is dense, frequent and cheap. Buy a Navigo Easy card or carnet of tickets, and a pocket eSIM keeps your maps live the moment you land.

How many days do you need in Paris?

Four to five days covers the major museums and neighbourhoods at a relaxed pace, with a day left for Versailles.
