London Travel Guide

Royal history, world-class museums, and a different world in every borough.

London is a dozen cities in one — royal palaces, free world-class museums, leafy parks and a different mood in every neighbourhood. English-speaking and superbly connected, it is one of the easiest big cities for a first-timer, solo traveller or family.

Is London safe?

General safety

A safe major city overall; violent crime is rare for visitors. Watch for pickpockets and phone-snatching in crowded tourist spots and on the Tube, and use licensed black cabs or apps late at night.

Solo female travellers

Very manageable for solo women, day and night in central areas. Use normal big-city awareness on quiet streets and night buses, and stick to licensed taxis or ride-hailing after dark.

LGBTQ+ travellers

Legal and very welcoming, with marriage equality and a large, visible scene around Soho. One of the world’s most LGBTQ-friendly cities.
