Florence Travel Guide
The cradle of the Renaissance — art, domes and Tuscan magic.
Florence is an open-air Renaissance museum — Brunelleschi’s dome, Michelangelo’s David, the Uffizi’s masterpieces — all packed into a compact, walkable centre wrapped in Tuscan charm. Romantic and art-rich, it suits couples, culture-lovers and solo travellers.

Is Florence safe?
General safety
Very safe in terms of violent crime. The genuine risk is pickpockets around the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and the train station, plus tourist-trap overcharging — keep your bag zipped and check menus.
Solo female travellers
A comfortable, hugely popular solo-female city you can enjoy freely day and night in the compact centre. Keep usual pickpocket guard in the busiest spots and you’ll be fine.
LGBTQ+ travellers
Legal and generally tolerant, with a small scene; Italy recognises civil unions rather than marriage and is more conservative than Northern Europe, but Florence is comfortable for LGBTQ+ travellers.
Safety guidance is general and can change — always check your government’s latest travel advice before you go.

Plan my trip — freeFlorence FAQs
Is Florence safe for solo female travellers?
Yes — it’s a very popular solo-female city where violent crime is rare and the centre is compact and walkable. The main thing to manage is pickpockets around the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and the station.
Do I need to book the Uffizi and Accademia in advance?
Yes — both sell out and the queues are long. Skip-the-line tickets to see the Uffizi and Michelangelo’s David are the best time-savers in Florence.
How many days do you need in Florence?
Two to three days covers the major art and the historic centre, with a fourth ideal for a Tuscany or Siena day trip.
