Córdoba Travel Guide

The Mezquita’s arches, flower-filled patios and a golden Moorish past.

Córdoba was once the largest, most cultured city in Europe, and its glory survives in the Mezquita — a vast mosque-cathedral of red-and-white arches unlike anywhere else — and in the whitewashed Judería, with its flower-filled patios and quiet lanes. Compact and easily seen in a day or two, it’s a highlight of Andalusia and an easy 45-minute fast-train hop from Seville.

Is Córdoba safe?

General safety

Córdoba is a very safe, low-key city with little crime. The main things to manage are pickpocketing in the Mezquita and Judería crowds and the extreme summer heat. Otherwise it’s calm and easy.

Solo female travellers

Very comfortable for solo women — small, walkable and safe day and night, with a relaxed, unhurried feel. Ordinary care with valuables in the tourist crowds is all that’s needed.

LGBTQ+ travellers

Spain is among the most LGBTQ+-friendly countries in the world (same-sex marriage since 2005), and Córdoba is relaxed and welcoming. It’s a small city without a dedicated scene, but same-sex couples travel completely comfortably.
