Don’t miss
Kelingking Beach viewpoint
The view down to Kelingking’s dinosaur-shaped cliff and white-sand cove is one of Indonesia’s most photographed scenes. The climb down to the sand is steep and strenuous — many just take it in from the top.

How to get to Nusa Penida
Fast boats run from Sanur in Bali to Nusa Penida in ~30–45 min. Many visit on an organised day tour (boat plus island transport), but the roads are rough — an overnight makes the island far more relaxed.
Best time to visit
April–October (dry season) for calm seas and the best snorkelling. Manta sightings are good year-round; seas are rougher in the Nov–March wet season.
Nusa Penida tips
- Book a tour or a driver with the boat — the island’s roads are rough and there’s no easy public transport.
- The Kelingking climb is steep, hot and not for everyone; the viewpoint alone is worth the trip.
- Start early: day-trippers all hit the same few spots midday and it gets crowded.
