3 Days in Amsterdam: The Perfect Itinerary

Three days is plenty for Amsterdam’s canal belt, its world-class museums and a neighbourhood or two. The centre is compact and flat — this plan is built to walk, with each day circling one quarter so you’re never crossing town.

Best for: First-timers and couples wanting the icons, the museums and time to drift along the canals.

Amsterdam itinerary tips

  • Book the Anne Frank House and Van Gogh Museum online well ahead — both are timed-entry only.
  • Stay out of the red bike lanes: locals cycle fast and won’t stop. Look both ways for bikes, not just cars.
  • Skip taxis — the centre is walkable and trams cover the rest with a tap of a contactless card.
