Auckland Travel Guide
City of sails — harbours, islands and volcanic cones.
Auckland spreads across a sparkling harbour studded with islands and dotted with dormant volcanic cones. New Zealand’s biggest city is laid-back, multicultural and outdoorsy — wine on Waiheke Island, black-sand surf beaches, and a relaxed, openly progressive feel that makes it one of the easiest cities anywhere to travel.

Is Auckland safe?
General safety
Very safe and easy. Crime against tourists is uncommon; the main risks are theft from parked cars and ordinary big-city awareness after dark in the central nightlife strip.
Solo female travellers
Excellent for solo female travellers — relaxed, friendly and walkable, with normal city precautions more than enough.
LGBTQ+ travellers
Among the most welcoming places on earth. New Zealand has had same-sex marriage since 2013 and strong protections; Auckland’s historic LGBTQ+ hub is Karangahape Road (K’ Road).
Safety guidance is general and can change — always check your government’s latest travel advice before you go.
