The story
Puerto Vallarta grew from a Pacific fishing town into a resort, and from the 1990s and 2000s the Old Town — the Zona Romántica — developed into the most established gay-travel destination in Latin America, with a concentration of gay bars, hotels and the “Blue Chairs” beach scene. Same-sex marriage is now legal across all of Mexico, and the town hosts an annual Vallarta Pride.
